The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has secured a N3 billion special intervention grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences (ARCS).

The university management disclosed this in a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communication and Corporate Documentation, Dr. Tosin Olagunju.

According to the statement, the approval was conveyed in an official letter dated April 27, 2026, and signed by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono.

The statement explained that the intervention is aimed at promoting advanced research and innovation in the fast-growing fields of artificial intelligence, robotics and cyber sciences.

It noted that the establishment of the centre marks a significant milestone in the university’s drive to become a leading institution in technological innovation, digital transformation and solution-driven research in Nigeria.

The university added that the centre would provide a platform for interdisciplinary research, technological development, capacity building and strategic collaborations targeted at addressing both national and global challenges.

The statement further said the initiative would strengthen the institution’s contribution to manpower development in emerging technologies and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a knowledge-based economy.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gbega Ibileye, expressed appreciation to TETFund for the confidence reposed in the institution.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to transparency, accountability and strict adherence to the guidelines governing the implementation of the intervention.

Ibileye stated that the centre would expand opportunities for scholars, researchers, students and industry stakeholders to develop innovative technological solutions capable of making positive impacts on society.
