Igala Cultural Development Association (ICDA), the apex political and socio-cultural body of the Igala speaking people of Kogi state has disclosed its decision to shut down the Igala Unity House located in Anyigba in Dekina local government area of the state.
A press statement issued by the national media officer of ICDA, Alhaji Hassan Ahmad and made available to newsmen, Thursday, disclosed that the decision was taken after due consideration of the height of political situation in the state, especially in Igala land, and expressed the regret of the body for taking the action.
The statement said the organisation itself had been fused in rancorous political propaganda, reiterating however the body’s stance on the promotion of democracy, good governance and advocacy for the development of the state in general.
The statement urged the general public who make use of the premises for their various lawful activities to bear with the decision even as it expressed that the decision was in the overall interest of the public and a temporary measure to safeguard its property from political violence and attacks.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had similarly lamented the spate of political violence in the state ahead of the gubernatorial election coming up on November 11.
While the Kogi gubernatorial election will hold simultaneously with Bayelsa and Imo, the incidents of violence and political attacks in Kogi state have been at the height of public concerns, leading many stakeholders in the state to request for federal government’s presence, in order to put an end to the ugly situation.
