The Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Ahmed Usman Ododo, has empowered 500 women and vulnerable persons across Okunland with cash grants of ₦50,000 each and distributed food items to support their livelihoods and alleviate the impact of economic hardship.

The empowerment programme, held in Kabba, headquarters of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, attracted beneficiaries from the five local government areas that make up Okunland. The initiative forms part of the First Lady’s efforts to promote economic inclusion, strengthen families and improve the welfare of women and vulnerable groups at the grassroots.

Speaking during the event, Hajia Ododo said the programme was designed to provide direct support to women, widows and other vulnerable persons, enabling them to expand their businesses, provide for their families and attain greater economic independence.

She described women as critical stakeholders in community development and nation-building, stressing that empowering them remains one of the most effective strategies for reducing poverty and enhancing family welfare.

According to her, the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains committed to implementing people-oriented programmes and policies that positively impact the lives of citizens across Kogi State.

“Our women are hardworking and resilient. When we support them, we strengthen homes, build stronger communities and create opportunities for sustainable development. This empowerment programme is our way of giving hope and helping our women achieve greater economic stability,” she stated.

The First Lady urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the cash grants and food items, noting that the intervention was intended to help them grow their businesses and improve their standard of living.

She also called on residents of Okunland to continue supporting the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, assuring them of the government’s commitment to delivering good governance and expanding opportunities for citizens across the state.

Hajia Ododo further appealed to Nigerians to sustain their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda is laying a solid foundation for economic growth, social development and national prosperity.

She expressed confidence that the policies and reforms of the Federal Government would continue to yield positive results and improve the living conditions of citizens.

Beneficiaries of the programme commended the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. They pledged to utilize the support effectively and appreciated her for prioritizing the welfare of women and vulnerable groups amid prevailing economic challenges.

Earlier, Hajia Ododo paid a courtesy visit to the Obaro of Kabba, His Royal Majesty Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, where she received royal blessings and reaffirmed the Kogi State Government’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions as partners in promoting peace, unity and development.

The empowerment programme further highlighted the First Lady’s commitment to improving the welfare of women and vulnerable groups while creating economic opportunities and hope for families across Okunland.
