One of the fallouts of Saturday’s House of Assembly Election in Kogi State is the retirement of old hands into political oblivion to pave way for the new younger hands emerging into the scene across Kogi State.
From results gathered by InsideStory, one of the notable casualties of the election is the former two term Governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Ibro.
For instance, result from Unit 2, Opposite First Bank, Abejukolo, the polling station where the former Governor and former Chairman of Omala Local Government Area, Alih Ajuh cast their votes, shows overwhelming victory for the ruling APC.
According to the final result, PDP recorded 90 votes against APC’s 187, an indication that the influence of the former Governor has waned drastically.
Proof of energy of the youths was also in play as they battled old power brokers making efforts to return to political reckoning in other parts of the state, but that of Omala, particularly the voting unit of the former Governor was more instructive.
Our reporter was also informed that the result has further demystified Omala which has, for a long time, been a stronghold of the opposition PDP in Kogi State.
A source resident in Abejukolo, Okpanachi Destiny, expressed shock over the result and posted on his social media page that he never thought a time would come when the former political strong man in Kogi State would be reduced to nothing as the result of the Assembly poll has shown.
In follow up comments, his friends had corroborated his point, with Musa Abimaje stating; “Even if the people had been bought over, I never in my wildest imagination thought that a day would come when that polling unit and even Omala as a local government would fall into the hands of another party other than the PDP.
“This is a clear proof that the younger generation of politicians are playing a tighter political chess game and are ready to send the old powers into permanent retirement.”
