
The Federal Polytechnic Idah has ushered in a new Students’ Union Government (SUG) leadership, with the institution’s Rector, Dr. Y. B. Usman, commending the outgoing executives for what he described as a peaceful and impactful tenure.
Speaking during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected SUG executives held at the Polytechnic’s Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday, Dr. Usman applauded the immediate past SUG President, Comrade Amos ThankGod Ugbedeojo, and his team for fostering peace, unity and harmonious relations between students and the institution’s management throughout their administration.
The Rector urged the newly inaugurated executives, led by Comrade Agada Daniel Ojochokobi, to build on the achievements of their predecessors, particularly the ongoing Ultra-Modern Students’ Union Government Complex project.
He advised the new leadership to prioritize dialogue, consultation and constructive engagement in addressing students’ concerns.
Earlier, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Engr. Omagu Friday, praised the Rector’s fatherly leadership and expressed appreciation to the Polytechnic’s Top Management Committee for creating an enabling environment that ensured a peaceful, free and transparent SUG election.
He also commended the Rector for approving land allocation and initiating the foundation of the proposed Ultra-Modern SUG Complex, describing the project as a landmark legacy that would serve future generations of students.
In his farewell speech, the outgoing SUG President, Comrade Amos ThankGod Ugbedeojo, thanked the Rector, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the management and the entire Polytechnic community for their support during his administration.
He encouraged the new executive members to remain committed to the welfare of students while maintaining cordial relations with the institution’s leadership.
Delivering his acceptance address, the newly inaugurated SUG President, Comrade Agada Daniel Ojochokobi, expressed gratitude to the Rector, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the Polytechnic community and the outgoing leadership for ensuring a credible electoral process.
He pledged to provide responsible leadership, promote peace and discipline, and work closely with the management to advance the interests of students and the continued development of the institution.
The oath of office was administered by Barrister Rachael Adegbe, who represented the Acting Director of Legal Services.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Rector (Academic), the Registrar, the Bursar, Deans, Heads of Departments, representatives of various students’ associations and members of the Polytechnic community.
