UBE/JSS RCM Compound, Magongo, has emerged winner of the 2026 NTA/Ododo Vanguard Inter-Secondary Schools Quiz Competition for schools in the Okene/Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency.
The grand finale of the competition was held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Ogori-Magongo Local Government Secretariat in Akpafa, attracting education stakeholders, community leaders and government officials.
The educational initiative was sponsored by philanthropist and businessman, High Chief Meka Adesina Soje, to promote academic excellence, critical thinking and healthy intellectual competition among secondary school students in the constituency.
The event was chaired by elder statesman and holder of the traditional title of Ohi Otenyiete of Ebiraland, Alhaji Isah Ozi Salami, OFR. Also in attendance was the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Okene, Dr. Ibrahim Ismaila Mosimabale, alongside other distinguished guests.
The competition, which was broadcast live by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Okene, featured debates, poetry recitations and quiz sessions, with students demonstrating impressive knowledge, creativity and confidence.
The three finalist schools were Community Comprehensive High School, Ogori; UBE/JSS RCM Compound, Magongo; and UBE/JSS St. John, Agassa.
At the end of the contest, UBE/JSS RCM Compound, Magongo, clinched the overall prize of ₦300,000. UBE/JSS St. John, Agassa, came second and received ₦200,000, while Community Comprehensive High School, Ogori, finished third with a cash prize of ₦100,000.
Reacting to the victory, the Principal of the winning school, Mr. Ademola Ogundare, described the competition as a landmark educational initiative and praised High Chief Soje for investing in public education and providing students with a platform to showcase their academic abilities through a live television broadcast.
He said the programme reflected the sponsor’s commitment to giving back to society and urged other well-meaning Nigerians to support educational development and youth empowerment.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the sponsor, High Chief Meka Adesina Soje, said the competition was designed to complement the educational policies of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly the state’s support for free Common Entrance, WAEC and JAMB registrations for eligible students.
He stressed that investment in education remains one of the most effective ways to secure the future of Kogi State and Nigeria, while encouraging students to remain focused on their studies and continue striving for excellence.
