
The Kogi State Government has announced the temporary suspension of all mining activities in Ankpa Local Government Area as part of an environmental rehabilitation exercise aimed at promoting sustainable mining practices.
The directive was contained in a public notice issued by the Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.
The statement, signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Commissioner, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, Muhammed Jamiu, said the suspension takes immediate effect.
According to the Ministry, the rehabilitation exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the Mining Association, Ankpa Local Government Council, and the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.
The suspension affects all mining operators, companies, associations, host communities, and other stakeholders involved in mining activities within the Ankpa axis.
The government explained that the temporary measure is necessary to ensure the successful execution of the rehabilitation exercise and urged all affected stakeholders to comply fully with the directive until further notice.
It assured that an official announcement would be made once the rehabilitation exercise is completed and mining activities are approved to resume.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation to miners, host communities, and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation throughout the exercise.
The state government noted that the action reflects the commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration to responsible mineral resource management, environmental protection, and the promotion of sustainable mining across Kogi State.
