In a move aimed at widening access to education across Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Karimi has initiated plans for the establishment of additional Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in key locations Lokoja, Iyara, Odo-Eri and Mopa.

The lawmaker revealed that the proposed centres are captured in the 2026 appropriation, following the successful hosting of over 1,200 candidates during the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations at the 288-capacity CBT facility in Titcombe College, Egbe. The centre was facilitated by the senator in collaboration with the institution’s alumni association.

Speaking in Abuja, Karimi disclosed that new CBT centres will be developed through the upgrade of facilities in selected secondary schools, including Muslim Community Secondary School, Lokogoma in Lokoja; Government Science School, Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area; and Okutadudu Comprehensive College, Odo-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area.

He explained that the projects will involve the rehabilitation and reconstruction of existing structures to accommodate 275-capacity CBT centres. Each facility is expected to be equipped with laptops, internet connectivity, CCTV surveillance systems, solar power installations, standby generators, and modern toilet facilities in line with JAMB requirements.

Karimi noted that he is already engaging contractors to ensure timely delivery of the projects, stressing that work would proceed without waiting for federal fund disbursement so the centres can be ready for the 2027 JAMB and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations.

Drawing from the experience gained during the development of the Titcombe College CBT centre, the senator assured constituents of a smooth and efficient execution of the new projects. The centres are expected to serve communities across Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu, Lokoja/Kotonkarfe, and Yagba federal constituencies.

In addition, Karimi pledged to personally support the establishment of a fourth CBT centre at ECWA Secondary School, Mopa, in Mopamuro Local Government Area, in partnership with the host community.
