Former Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje has advocated for the adoption of principle of party supremacy to make the Democratic governance more viable.
Alhaji Baraje made the call while speaking with Journalists in Ilorin ,the Kwara state capital as part of activities to mark his 70th birthday anniversary
According to him intra-party crisis will be minimal and the nation’s democracy will enjoy greater stability if politicians recognizes supremacy of their parties
He also said allowing the party to operate freely will enable the executive arm of government focus on the provision of dividend of democracy to the electorate.
Alhaji Baraje explained that lack of observance of party supremacy will weaken our democracy.
He urged the political class to remain focus and demonstrate the willingness to serve the people.
Baraje who responded to recent moves, reportedly by four APC governors to woo former president Goodluck Jonathan to contest in 2023 under their platform, laughed off their plans saying that if care is not taken, those governors sent by APC might end up being PDP memebers at the end of the day.
”Jonathan is a complete gentle man, calm and calculated. He listens with patience to whatever anybody has to say but does what he feels is right at the end of day.
“I know this because I worked with the former president. He owes so much to PDP and he says it to anybody that cares to listen.
“I recall a few days ago that some people called me when we got wind of the APC plan, asking that we go and meet Jonathan to impress on him to grant the APC delegates audience.
”I simply told them that there is no need for that. Jonathan has his own mind. He might even offer them pounded yam and listen to them but will still act on his own conscience” Baraje said.
