The people of Lokoja local government area of Kogi have protested over alleged plot to impose a particular chairmanship aspirant on other aspirants jostling for the seat.
They accused the party leadership of planning to impose the current Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters of the local government, Hon Muhammad Danasabe Muhammad on the people.
Speaking on behalf of the women and youths, Yahaya Mohammed said they wonder why the standing agreement of leaders for chairmanship to be zoned to ward E after expiration of tenure of the previous administrator, now current Senior Special Adviser on Security, is being jettisoned even at the detriment of the reality on ground.
The youths vowed that the protest may lead to unrest due to age long injustice against the people of Ward E.
They called on party leadership to allow the old arrangement of power shift to stand which will ensure Ward E take a shot at leadership of Lokoja local government council.
The protesters argued that Hon Yaba Maisaka, one of the chairmanship aspirants is from Ward E.
“We are worried because from reliable source, the governor is not disposed to the Directors of Local Government (DLGs) manning the various councils during the conduct of councils election. We gathered before the recent appointments that those the Governor will appoint as SSA on Security will definitely be the party candidates during the local government elections.
“With what is on ground, there is a sinister plan to impose the former Administrator, Muhammad Danasabe on us as he has been appointed as the SSA Security by the Governor,” he said.
The protesters took to the streets lamenting the plan to deprive Ward E, the second largest ward in the local government with eight polling units, from ever becoming council chairman.
They equally frowned at the way chairmanship and other appointments is being rotated among other wards.
