The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Idah, RT. Hon. Adetope Ademiluyi has said that for the institution not having electricity supply from the National Grid is a major problem for the school.
He noted that relying on generating sets all year round is a bad drain on an already lean purse.
He made this known during the 103 Regular Meeting of the council which took place at the Council Chamber of the institution.
His words, “We need to be pragsnatic about finding a lasting solution to the problem. We should consider setting up a Solar Farm and harvesting the power for individual buildings, we can incorporate a solar power system into the Bill of Quantity (BOQ) of every building we are embarking on from now
“I still believe it is not far-fetched if we write the Ministry of Power and request for a dedicated line from Gerega Power Plant. A plausible alternative Power Source that we identified at the retreat of Council Chairmen in Calabar last month was seeking assistance from the REA (Rural Electrification Agency). We decided to send the Executive members of the Committee of Chairmen to meet with the Director General (DG) of the Agency
“1 happen to be the Vice Chairman for North Central, and a meeting has been scheduled with the man for 13th March, 2025 by: 1.00 pm. I am optimistic that we will be one of the first beneficiaries if we can persuade the Agency to help Polytechnics.
