As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, The Standup for Women Society honours the remarkable progress made by the federal and state governments towards gender equality, but more needs to be done to actualize the drum for equity  while acknowledging the significant improvement in Nigeria, especially the appointment of women into some sensitive quarters,  the SWS calls for total support for women to be elected in elective positions

The International President of the Standup For Women Society,  Barr.  Deborah Ijadele Adetona in her message to Mark the International Women’s Day and made public by the National Public Relations Officer (NPRO), Lib. Billie Nwogu, says despite the advancements, society against gender inequality,  inequality,  and empowerment of women and girls have continued to face unprecedented threats worldwide, from growing discrimination to weaker legal protections and reduced funding for programs that support women. She therefore called on government and corporate bodies to improve their support for women NGOs.

The Standup For Women Society issues a clarion call to governments, corporations, and individuals to Accelerate Action towards achieving gender equality and equity.

The urgency of this moment cannot be overstated and in solidarity with women and girls everywhere, the SWS reaffirms its commitment to protecting women’s rights, promoting empowerment, and ensuring equal opportunities.

They recognize that gender equity is not only a fundamental human right but also a cornerstone of sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.

“The Standup For Women Society (SWS) seeks for the Protection of Women’s Rights: Want governments, civil society, and individuals to safeguard women’s rights, particularly in the face of growing backlash and discrimination.

Other areas the SWS solicited for are: –

Empowering Women and Girls: We must invest in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment programs that enable women and girls to reach their full potential.

Preventing Violence Against Women: We urge governments to adopt and implement legislation to end violence against women and girls, in all its forms.

Promoting Women’s Leadership: We must work towards achieving full and equal decision-making power for women, including through temporary special measures like gender quotas.

Bold policy changes to ensure equal pay, equal representation, and equal opportunities for women and girls.

Increased investment in programs and initiatives that support women’s empowerment, education, and health.

“And as we move forward, we draw inspiration from the countless women and girls who are leading the charge for change. ” Barr. Deborah added.

The SWS seeks Corporations to adopt inclusive practices, provide equal opportunities, and support women’s empowerment.

Promised not to ignore any Individuals who boldly challenge their own biases, advocate for change, and support women’s rights.

The SWS is committed to supporting and amplifying women’s voices, as they work together towards a more just, equitable, and peaceful world.

Join SWS today in demanding Accelerated Action for gender equality. Together, we can create a more just and equitable world for all.
