THE Ijumu local government council Chairmanship aspirants of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Monday appealed to kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello not to appoint Alhaji Taofiq Isah to held the local government council but rather should allowed the stake holders of the party to decide.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the former Chairman of Ijumu local government council, Mr. Dada Fehinte said “it is pertinent to out on record that our position is not borne out of hatred for the person of Alhaji Taofiq Isah but it is our utmost desire to preserve our age long system that help us as people so tremendously.
“Our renewed attempt to call the attention of the governor is that we are hearing that those to be appointed to be at the helm of affairs in the local government will fly the flag of the party as chairman in the proposed local government election,” he stated.
Mr. Fehinte who said he was addressing the press on behalf of the aspirants from Ijumu local government council stressed that Taofiq had served as Ijumu local government council administrator for four good years and therefore the next chairman should come another zone.
He pointed out that in one of their communique in the past, that they will have no objection to his appointment being renewed for another four years in the capacity of a Sole Administrator, caretaker as long as he is not being venture as elected executive chairman, as doing so will no doubt contravene their traditional arrangement which cut across both their political, traditional and social offices, these has over the decades engender peaceful and harmonious co-existence amongst their people.
“It is our prayer that since you have come to build a United Kogi State and not to destroy the good things in ground, you will not put assander what was put together by our fore-father.
“We appeal strongly that adequate consultation be made before making pronouncement on this matter as it affects Ijumu with all the stakeholders which include, traditional rulers, opinion leaders and community association under the Ijumu Development Association.
The Aspirants from Ijumu local government who were present at the press conference include Fasasi Aminu, Ogungbamiwa Yinusa Sesan, Ibileke Olufemi, Hon Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, Otunba Shuaib Ipinmisho, Moriamoh Adebamigbe Salami and Kamaldeen Toyin Adam.
