Kogi State Security Trust, has launched the distribution of motorcycles and new tyres to security agencies to aid their mobility in curbing criminality in the state.
The Chairman of Trust Fund, Mr Abdulkareem Ozovehe, flagged off the distribution to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday in Lokoja,
Ozovehe said the initiative was an attempt to assist security agencies to curb criminality in the state.
He noted that Gov. Ahmed Ododo, had given approval for the procurement of 35 motorcycles to be distributed to security agencies across the 21 local government areas to rid Kogi of Crimes.
“We have started the distribution with the provision of five motorcycles and ten vehicle tyres to NSCDC and Quick Response Units all from Kogi central,” he said.
He added that the agency had also refurbished operational vehicles and donated news to the security operatives and Kogi Hunters in the western and eastern parts of the state.
Ozovehe further said the governor has also given approval for the procurement of 16 flying boats for the seven riverine local government areas of the state.
According to him, they includes: Ibaji, Idah, Ofu, Omala, Bassa, Ajaokuta and Kogi Local Government Areas to enable security operatives fight crimes on the water ways.
He said: “the governor is doing everything possible to ensure that perpetrators of crimes especially robbery and kidnapping in the state are arrested and brought to book.
“The state government is presently working with National Union of Road Transport Workers and Okada Riders Association to fish out criminals who are pretending to be their members to perpetrate crimes”.
He appealed to residents to assist the security agencies by giving fore hand information to security agencies and report any suspicious activities in their communities.
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Supt. Salihu Mohammed, thanked the state government for provision of the motorcycles and tyres to the security agencies in the state.
Mohammed assured that such gesture would reduce crimes and criminalities to the barest minimum across the state.
