The new Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Edward Egbuka has warned his officers and men against extortion and criminality in the state, saying he has zero tolerance for extortion and criminality.
He made this known on Friday while addressing Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to herald his assumption of office in the state.
The Commissioner of Promised to use his over thirty years experience in the Police to fight crimes and criminality in the State.
He cautioned them against infringing on the rights of citizens, even though he will not tolerate the infringement of the rights of Police men in carrying out their duties.
He commended the efforts of the Federal Government and other support agencies for the funding of the Police adding that it will be unfair to extort members of the public who the Police is expected to protect.
He urged them to rather go hungry than extorting the members of the public.
He called on the citizens of the State to avail the police with information to enable it carry out its mandate, saying that the police has several channels of receiving information as well as protecting the informants.
He promised to operate an open door policy in the discharge of his duties.
He noted that Kogi State is a familiar terrain to him having served before in the state as Deputy Commissioner stressed that he will key into the mission and vision of the Inspector General of Police to attract and build the trust of the people of the State.
The Commissioner promised to synergies with all other security and paramilitary agencies and all critical stakeholders towards making the state safe and secure.
” It would be business unusual in fighting crimes and criminality in Kogi State. The media should promote stories that will help the police do better in the discharged of the Police and not sensational reporting that will promote and encourage crimes”.
He appealed and warned the public against the use of self help, described it as illegal, saying nothing should justify the use of jungle Justice and he promised to deal with culprits engaged in applying self help.
He said having reviewed the Security architecture of the state, he is resolved in improving the security of the state and assurred that the Police Command will not rest on its oars in making the State crime free.
CP Edward Chuka Egbuka is the 36Th Commissioner of Police in Kogi State Police Command. This is followed the redeployment of CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban psc (+), fdc to the Force Headquarters as the Commissioner of Police Communications.
CP Egbuka was enlisted into the Police Force on 15Th March, 1988 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State. He holds a B. SC (Hons) in History and International Relations from the University of Calabar and a Law Degree from the River State University of Science and Technology.
He is a seasoned international Police Officer who has transverse the length and breadth of law enforcement and Policing with International peace keeping experience. He is member of the International Association of Chief of Police (IACP). He attended several Tactical and Leadership courses within and outside Nigeria. From 1994-1995, he was at the United Nations as a Civil Police Observer in Rwanda, East Africa.
CP Egbuka served in various capacities within the Force to include the immediate past Commissioner of Police in charge of Plateau State Police Command. He also served as the Commissioner of Police Operations at the Force Headquarters. Until this deployment, he was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Communication at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in both Osun State Command and Kogi State Command and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation at the Zone 7, Headquarters, Abuja.
The new Commissioner of Police also served as the Area Commander in Ogba Area Command, Lagos, Idimu Area Command, Lagos, umuahia Area Command, Abia State as well as Lantang Area Command, Plateau State Command respectively.
CP Egbuka served as Assistant Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, Abuja and Divisional Police Officer in different Divisions across the Federation.
His hobbies include long distance walking, reading, playing and watching football, as well as listening to good music.
He is happily married and blessed with Children.
