The All Progressives Congress Sokoto State chapter has said that plans to remove the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar from office after the governorship election in the state is not true.
Some youths on Monday took to the Sultan’s palace demonstrating against the planned removal of the monarch.
Murtala Abdulrahman, one of the leaders of the group while ddressing newsmen at the palace, said, “We are at the palace to alert the Sultan on the evil plot by the APC to remove him if they win the governorship election.
“They alleged that the Sultan has not been supporting the APC. They are saying, ‘new government, new Sultan.’ We will not allow them to rubbish our traditional ruler. We shall put them to shame.”
But, reacting, the state chairman of the APC, Isa Acida, addressing journalists at the Party secretariat in Sokoto, denied the reports, describing it as a plot by Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) ahead of governorship election.
He accused PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma of making statements capable of throwing the state into turmoil.
Acida said “Leadership of the PDP is inciting the youths to violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
“Milgoma and the Zonal Vice-Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Muhammadu Dangwaggo, alongside other party leaders in the state, made the inciting statements on Sultan of Sokoto removal during a rally organised by PDP youths at Government House on Saturday.
“The demonstration at the palace was sponsored by the opposition to tarnish the image of our party.”
