The contest for the House of Representatives seat in Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State ahead of the February 2027 general election has taken a decisive turn, following the emergence of a consensus candidate.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, a Yagba-designated committee chaired by Chief Salaudeen Ganiyu (Erukutu) successfully supervised a peaceful and orderly selection process.
Other members of the committee included High Chief Olatunde Oludare David, Engr. Kayode Olomo, and Hon. Bisi Ojuola, who served as secretary.
Also present as observers were Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), Chief Ayo Abereoran, Chief Makinde Oyebode, Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloje, and Dr. Ayodele John (Delex).
Following deliberations, the committee announced Pastor Babagbemi Adejola Joseph, popularly known as “Gb Irorun,” as the consensus candidate for the constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was reached during a Yagba Strategic Caucus meeting held in Maitama, Abuja, bringing to a close months of consultations and negotiations among party stakeholders. The outcome also signals a potential shift, as Mopamuro Local Government is poised to produce the constituency’s representative for the first time since 2003.
Speaking at the gathering, High Chief Olatunde Oludare David (Maiyegun), alongside Engr. Kayode Olomo, stated that the people of Yagba had collectively agreed on a preferred candidate in the interest of unity and progress.
The announcement was met with widespread approval, with supporters across the constituency expressing enthusiasm over the development. Other aspirants, including Hon. Olufemi Folusho, Hon. Seun Ibigbemi, Rtd. General Ipinyomi, and Hon. Edward Meseko, pledged their full support for the consensus candidate.
They emphasized their commitment to working together for the advancement of Yagba land, noting that collective development outweighs personal ambition. The aspirants also assured of their readiness to support Pastor Adejola Joseph both financially and politically to ensure victory in the forthcoming election.
The committee explained that the choice of the candidate was guided by considerations of continuity, unity, and a strategic effort to end Mopamuro’s 24-year absence from the House of Representatives seat. Members further pledged their unwavering support to the candidate.
In his response, Pastor Babagbemi Adejola Joseph expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, describing the opportunity as a privilege to serve.
He assured the people of his commitment to delivering accelerated development across Yagba Federal Constituency.
