Residents and traders at Timber Garage, Zango Daji community in Lokoja have commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for fulfilling his promise to provide a new electricity transformer within four days, describing the Governor as a leader whose words are consistently backed by action.
The Governor had last week Friday, July 3, 2026, while on his way to inspect the Lokoja-Zango Road and supervise the enforcement against tax-evading miners, stopped to interact with residents who appealed for assistance after their electricity transformer broke down, leaving the community and Timber Market without power for about three months.
Responding to the appeal, Governor Ododo assured the residents that a replacement transformer would be delivered within four days.
In fulfilment of that promise, a brand-new 500KVA transformer was delivered to the community on Tuesday, bringing relief to hundreds of residents and business owners who had endured months of blackout.
Presenting the transformer on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Muhammed Abdulmutalib, represented by his Technical Assistant, Alhaji Isah Hussaini Sule, said the intervention reflected Governor Ododo’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people through the provision of critical infrastructure.
He noted that the transformer would enhance electricity supply, boost commercial activities, improve security, and promote socio-economic development within the area.
He also praised the Governor for redeeming his promise without delay and urged residents to take collective responsibility for protecting the transformer against vandalism to ensure its long-term service.
The presentation sparked celebrations across Timber Market as residents and traders applauded Governor Ododo’s responsiveness and commitment to the needs of the people.
President of the Timber Market Association, Mr. Victor Ojukwu, expressed appreciation to the Governor, saying the community was “100 percent happy” with the prompt delivery of the transformer.
According to him, many residents initially doubted the promise would be fulfilled within the stated period, but the Governor proved them wrong by delivering exactly as promised.
Ojukwu said businesses in the market suffered heavy losses during the three-month blackout as traders relied on costly diesel-powered generators to sustain their operations.
He added that the new transformer would reduce business costs, restore commercial activities, and improve the livelihoods of hundreds of traders.
He assured the state government that the Timber Market Association would ensure the transformer is adequately protected from vandalism.
Also speaking, Madam Bosede Mesicko recalled how a woman from the community stopped the Governor’s convoy to plead for intervention over the prolonged power outage.
She said Governor Ododo listened attentively and promised that a new transformer would be delivered on Tuesday, a pledge that many residents found difficult to believe until it became a reality.
Describing the Governor as a leader who “talks and acts,” she prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection over him.
Madam Mesicko added that the Governor’s performance had strengthened public confidence in his administration, expressing optimism that the people would support him in the 2027 governorship election.
She noted that his responsiveness to the needs of ordinary citizens had earned him widespread goodwill and admiration across the grassroots.
A similar gesture was also extended to residents of Crusher Community, where the delivery of electricity infrastructure reportedly sparked jubilation among community members.
For the people of Timber Garage and Zango Daji, the delivery of the 500KVA transformer represents not only the restoration of electricity but also a demonstration of responsive governance and a commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people.
