Coalition of political parties in Kogi state have warned political party, stakeholders and party leaders not to impose candidates in 2023 general elections.
The Public Relations of Coalition of Political Parties, Mercy Analo made this known during a press conference held in Lokoja.
According to her, the group is calling on political party stakeholders and party leaders who would want to impose candidates on the people to be aware of the implications, especially as they may be deficient in capacity and Competence, above all not popular amongst the electorates.
She said they decided to hold the press conference to address political parties and the stakeholders in the management of Electoral process for 2023 general elections.
The Coalition of Political Parties, therefore called on all political parties to play the game by the rules and regulations guiding the process.
“All political parties should allow the process without cutting corners to avoid litigations after the primary election, the three processes are Direct, indirect and consensus which must prove the stages of the agreement.
“All political parties including stakeholders is advised to adhere strictly to the process of nominating candidates through bottom up approach as stipulated by INEC , through the observant of three processes of selection to avoid agitations, squabbles and unnecessary cross carpeting
“Political parties with special interest in some particular person’s must be aware that what are sacrosanct in 2023 election is Competence, Capacity and Character.
“Party stakeholders should also take into cognizance on those serving their various constituencies of their performances. Those serving their first term or second term agenda and have performed beyond reasonable doubt should be considered for more, provided they’ve satisfied the electorates
“Any political party that fails to follow the proper procedure by bottom up approach process will face the challenges of winning election in their polling units, because the electorates must speak through their PVCS during the election
“The most transparent option or position we are adopting for all political parties Fielding aspirants is Open primary election for all qualified aspirants to participate in a free, fair and credible primary election to avoid any stigma of political linage. We appeal to his Excellency and all party steward to avoid sentiments, hear say for proper consideration of candidates that can win election.
“Proper process of primary election breed’s popular candidates, popular candidates breeds performance and dividend of democracy assured. Stop impunity of imposition of candidates for democracy to thrive, and to allow the true meaning of Democracy to be practicalized.
“This press conference is basically addressing political party stakeholders and party leaders who are found of imposing candidates on the people to be aware of the implications, especially as they may be deficient in capacity and Competence, above all not popular amongst the electorates.
