
Dr. Ameh Erico has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi East Senatorial District after recording a landslide victory in the party’s primary election held on Monday.
The results, announced by the returning officer at the collation centre, showed that Dr. Erico polled an impressive 73,317 votes to defeat six other aspirants in the keenly contested exercise.
Chief Tim Nda Diche of Bassa Local Government Area came second with 3,238 votes, while other contestants recorded significantly lower figures.
According to the official results announced at the end of the exercise:
Dr. Ameh Erico – 73,317 votes
Chief Tim Nda Diche – 3,238 votes
Okutepa Usman Dalandi – 85 votes
Jibrin Echocho – 51 votes
Akor Yunusa Kashim – 43 votes
Muri Ajaka – 3 votes
Dr. Muhammed Bala Alfa – 2 votes
The primary election attracted participation from APC members across the nine local government areas of Kogi East Senatorial District. All seven aspirants were earlier screened and cleared by the party to contest the election.
Party faithful and observers described the exercise as peaceful, orderly and transparent, praising the level of participation by delegates and members across the district.
With the victory, Dr. Erico has now secured the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections and is expected to begin wider consultations and mobilization across Kogi East.
The APC leadership in Kogi State has continued to emphasize unity among party members and aspirants across the three senatorial districts as part of efforts to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
