A group under the aegis of Okun Development Association has warned detractors who are fond of publishing falsehood against the person and character of the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja Prof. Akinwumi desist , saying they would no longer tolerate any act of character assassination on their son.
The warning was issued on Friday at a press conference organised by the Federal University Lokoja branch of the association in Lokoja.
Branch Chairman of the association Professor Mohammed Suleiman , said the Vice Chancellor since he assumed office one year ago has been making unrelenting efforts to put the institution on the right path of development.
Suleiman who described the detractors as enemies of progress , stated that the negative narration on Professor Akinwumi was aimed at dissuading him from achieving his the vision for the university.
“The Vice Chancellor has been on his toes to see the Federal University Lokoja progresses, and this been manifesting already just within a year of assumption of office, great National University Commission (NUC) ranking , accreditation of all programmes , expansion of the university operations by the creation of more directorates has been achieved.
“Still within one year in office the workaholic Vice Chancellor has established two major faculties; the faculty of medical science and faculty of engineering. The resource verifications of these two faculties has been carried out.
“He has succeeded in sustaining industrial harmony in the university and if these laudable achievement of Professor Akinwumi is what is annoying some people they should have a rethink because the VC meant well for the students and staff of the institution” he said
The branch chairman of the association however stated that they are not against anyone or group seeking for any legitimate redress, but cautioned that it must not be done to distract the Vice Chancellor.
“He has bought peace to Federal University Lokoja, sense of belonging and purposeful leadership devoid of tribal or religious sentiments” he added.
