
The Kogi State House of Assembly has highlighted its legislative accomplishments over the past three years, revealing that it has passed 59 bills since the inauguration of the 8th Assembly in 2023.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, disclosed this on Thursday during a special plenary session held in Lokoja to mark the end of the Third Legislative Session and the Assembly’s third anniversary.
According to the Speaker, the Assembly considered a total of 76 bills within the period, comprising 55 Executive Bills and 21 Private Members’ Bills. Of these, 59 have been successfully passed into law, while 17 are still undergoing legislative processes.
Yusuf noted that during the third legislative session alone, lawmakers received 23 bills, including 19 Executive Bills and four Private Members’ Bills.
He said 19 of the bills were passed, representing an 82.6 percent success rate for the session and an overall legislative productivity rate of 77.6 percent.
The Speaker described the 8th Assembly as one of the most stable and productive in the state’s history, attributing its achievements to unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to the welfare of the people.
He stressed that the true measure of legislative success lies in the positive impact of laws and policies on citizens, urging members to remain focused on people-oriented representation and governance.
Yusuf also commended the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive arm of government, noting that the collaboration has facilitated the implementation of key development initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and workers’ welfare.
He praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for maintaining a productive working relationship with the Assembly and acknowledged former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for his role in promoting political stability and institutional continuity in the state.
Reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to good governance, the Speaker urged lawmakers to continue enacting laws and policies that improve the quality of life of Kogi residents.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwuaba, lauded the House leadership for fostering inclusiveness, harmony, and unity among members, saying the atmosphere had contributed significantly to the Assembly’s legislative successes and constituency development efforts.
She reiterated the commitment of the 8th Assembly to strengthening democratic institutions and supporting sustainable development across Kogi State.
