Youth organizations in Kwara state have said that various employment platforms being provided for youth are capable of stemming crime and improving socioeconomic development in the state.
In a statement by a sociopolitical organization concerned with promoting good governance and development, Kwara People’s Network, the people said that the present administration has set aside political stagnancy in the state.
The statement signed by the state coordinator and publicity secretary of the group, Comrade Busayo David and Abdulazeez Lukman, respectively, said that, “today we can boldly say that narrative has changed with emergence of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq because he has been keeping to his promises made during electioneering campaign since he assumed office.
It is recalled that the administration of Governor Abdulrazaq recently provided such employment platforms with 4,701 youth in SUBEB/TESCOM jobs, 130 Health Officers’ jobs, 1,000 Civil Service jobs, 400 Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) jobs and 1,056 Community Police jobs.
The people, who said that citizens of Kwara state have never had it so good, said that Governor Abdulrazaq had taken steps to right the wrongs of the past.
“Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is here to empower all Kwara youths. It is our hope and aspirations that there will be no more political thuggery, no more cultism and no more unemployment in Kwara state”, the statement read.
Speaking at the flag off of training for Kwara’s 1,056 community police constables, Governor Abdulrazaq tasked the new constables on discipline and commitment to duties which he described as the bedrock of policing job.
“Those of you stepping into the community police today have your job cut out for you. You need a lot of discipline to excel. Once you are disciplined, other things will fall in place for you,” Abdulrazaq added.
Kwara State Police Commissioner Mohammed Bagega, for his part, said the initiative was intended to enhance success in the fight against crime. He also emphasised the significant role intelligence gathering plays in checking crimes.
The Police boss added that the constables will, after undergoing one month training on security tasks, be deployed to their various communities in the state.
