The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, has arrested a suspected transformer vandal, Audu Bello, for allegedly vandalising an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) transformer in Adavi Local Government Area of the state.
Three other suspects identified as Asipita, Abdullahi and Abdul are currently on the run, while security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend them.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Abdullahi Aliyu, disclosed the arrest in a statement, describing it as another major breakthrough in the NSCDC’s ongoing campaign to protect critical national assets and infrastructure across Kogi State.
According to the statement, the arrest followed a distress call from residents of Inoziomi Community, who reported suspicious activities around a newly installed AEDC transformer scheduled for commissioning next week.
Acting on the tip-off, operatives of the NSCDC Adavi Divisional Office, working alongside members of the community, swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect at about 12:00 a.m. on July 10, 2026.
Recovered from the suspect were vandalised transformer components, tools allegedly used in carrying out the act, and a Volkswagen Golf 3 Station Wagon with registration number KWL 837 ZZ (Abuja).
The NSCDC said the suspect remains in custody and will be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplices.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets in line with the directive of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Audi, and commended residents of Inoziomi Community for providing timely intelligence that led to the successful arrest.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to help combat vandalism and other criminal activities across the state.
