The Nigerian Army has rescued two kidnapped victims, including a six-month-old baby, following a swift operation in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The rescue was carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, after suspected kidnappers attacked a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe on the night of June 3.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the gunmen abducted five members of a family during the attack. The victims included a woman, her infant child, and three other relatives.

Abdullahi explained that troops, working in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), immediately launched a pursuit operation after receiving a distress call.

He said the sustained pressure mounted by the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon two of their captives, identified as Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old baby, along the Oro axis before escaping into nearby bushes.

The rescued victims were safely reunited with their family, while security operatives have intensified efforts to locate and rescue the remaining abductees.

The Army spokesman reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kogi State and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.

He assured the public that troops remain on the trail of the kidnappers and are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
