A davasteting storm have ravages the Federal Polytechnic Idah causing widespread destruction to properties and buildings within the institution premises.
The storm which lasted for several hours brought winds and heavy rainfall that damaged roofs, walls and windows of several buildings including lecture halls, laboratories and students hostels.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Yahaya Usman while speaking with Newsmen on thursday during inspection tour assessing the damages, disclosed that “it was a terrifying experience for the Polytechnic in such a time as this. We are saddened by the high level of destruction caused by the storm
“We are still assessing the damage to know the financial implication to repair and restore damaged facilities, so far with the level of destruction, only the Federal Government intervention that can bring the institution out from this destruction faster” he said.
He said they will do everything possible to provide necessary support to affected students and ensure that academic activities resume as soon as possible.
Also, the Deputy Rector Academics, Associate Professor. Muhammad Yusuf accompanied by the Director, Works and Services, Director physical planning, Dean, student affairs, President, Student Union Government and the Excos that inspected the destruction noted that the winds were so strong that it ripped off roofs and trees and shattered Windows.
The Director works and services, Engr. Fajilade Adeniyi while speaking noted that the storm also caused power outages and disrupted academic activities especially in the departments affected by the storm like wise hostels accommodation affected too.
