Rotary Club of Ilorin, Rotary District 9125, New Dawn, in partnership with a pharmaceutical company in Kwara state, has embarked on deworming exercise of about 5,000 primary school pupils in the state.
Speaking at the deworming exercise and book presentation to pupils of St. Barnabas Primary, Junior Secondary School, Sabo-Oke in Ilorin on Tuesday, Rotary Club president, Ayinla Oluwaseun Bamidele, said that a total of 15 schools in the Ilorin metropolis have been selected to benefit in the deworming programme.
“I was privileged to information that pupils of Kwara state primary schools were rated as those not regularly dewormed. It became a worrisome issue to some of us. So, we contacted some of the pharmaceutical companies that are friendly to us to know there ways we could collaborate with them on this deworming exercise. Fortunately, Biomedicals were able to come to our rescue. So, we partnered with them to carry out the deworming exercise”, he said.
The Rotarian, who called on the state government to improve on deworming exercise among school children in the state, advised that the government should make it a regular exercise.
“The message to the state government is that we should do more of this. Recently, Biomedical pharmaceutical organized its own deworming exercise in which the state representative were also present. I just want to advise that they should make this a regular exercise so that our pupil will be healthy and be in good condition to learn”, he said.
Also speaking, Director, Quality Assurance in the Kwara state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Abdullatif Idiagbon, described the project, commended members of the club for their kind gesture in development of the nation.
“They got permission from Kwara SUBEB on their activity. It is a welcome idea and we appreciate it. We expect more of this from other clubs”, he said.
