Re-coronation of Eze-Ndigbo in Okene.

PUTTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT

Kogiflame

The attention of the Association of Igbo Community in Ebiraland (Kogi Central), has been drawn to a piece of misinformation aired via Jatto FM radio station and which by extension is currently in public domain.

The piece of information attempted to claim ignorance of the existence of the association of Igbo Community in Ebiraland.

First and foremost, the association of Igbo Community is duely registered with the corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja vide reference RC No: 58121.

That for long past, the association is the umbrella body of the Igbos resident in Ebiraland and for which Igbos are expected to register with.

The primary function of the registered association is to assist regulate/supervise the activities of the resident Igbos in order for them to live peacefully in harmony with the host community and law abiding.

That since the association came into being several years past, it has conducted it’s affairs peacefully and in line with the rule of law. Thus, the association has never been found wanting.

Similarly, the association gives due recognition/honour to government, constituted authorities and other relevant institutions.

That the association have always tried to maintain official communications with local government councils across Kogi Central and the Ebira Area Traditional Council.

That whatever observable difference among the Igbos in Ebiraland is an internal issue which borders on the resignation of a local chapter of the Association in an attempt to form a parallel body, a venture that failed completely, as the courts of law barred them from forming a parallel association, nor using the name of the registered association.

That not minding the judgement of the court, these group of dissident Igbos, kept impersonating/misrepresenting the association, for which members of the dissident group are currently facing criminal charges at the Okene magistrate Court.

That upon the assumption of office of HRM, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and council chairmen in Kogi Central, the association of Igbo Community formerly inundated the two respected institutions of the development, with an attached copy of the court judgement through the association’s lawyer, Mr Amechi and Amechi, on the 27th February, 2024.

That this frequent acts of impersonation/misrepresentation by these group of Igbos was also reported to the Ohinoyi and Okene LGA Chairman in a letter dated 4th March, 2024.

That when the incidents of attempts by some local government councils to bye-pass the registered Igbo Community association to appoint/crown non-registered Igbos as the traditional head (Eze-Ndigbo) of members of the Igbo Community in Ebiraland, the association raised alarm in a protest letter to the state commissioner for Local Government/Chieftaincy Affairs dated 24th June, 2025 and copied the council chairmen in Kogi Central, Ebira Area Traditional Council and security Agencies. The protest letter was also published on page 8 of Graphic Newspaper of 9th July – 15th July 2025.

That all the aforementioned letters to the Commissioner, the council chairmen and Ebira Area Traditional Council were acknowledged.

That outside the above, the Association has tried to maintain a good relationship/communication with the above mentioned institutions through various letters of felicitations and commiserations whenever the need arises.

Therefore, for anyone to deny knowledge of the existence of the Association of Igbo Community in Ebiraland is to run away from the truth or at best playing politics with objectivity, justice and fairness.

Finally, the association of Igbo community in Ebiraland is one and it maintains that the association was not consulted on the move to install an Eze over her members. Therefore, the association dissociates itself from the arrangement.

Lastly, we use this medium to call on members of the association to remain peaceful and law abiding.

Chief Joseph Anikwe (JP)
Gburu-gburu Ndigbo
President General.
