Corruption is an absent of integrity which have eaten deep into fabrics of our society at National level in general and even in Kogi State in particular. It is on this note we commend the Kogi State House of Assembly, for the passage and subsequent signed into Law by the Governor of Kogi State on 20th June, 2024 of the Anti-Corruption Bill.

The advocacy by civil society organizations for the creation of an Anti-corruption agency or institution in Kogi State is bring positive results. We commend Kogi State House of Assembly for the passage of the Bill on Anti-corruption and the subsequent signing it into Law, which we will be glad for the agency to be established with people of proven integrity with diverse background as soon as possible. Corruption have eaten deep into our society particularly among public service institutions in Kogi State in the past and is still ravaging Kogi State. With the signing of this Law and the subsequence establishment of the agency, we believe it will have a meaningful impact in the struggle against corruption in Kogi State.

The agency, will now complement the effort of the various Federal institutions fighting Corruption at various level in Nigeria. We urge the current Governor and its government to develop political will and diligence in his attitude, body language and utterances in the fight of this cankerworm as it has brought in low development, deprivation of fundamental Human Rights of citizens from their basic benefits, such as Health, infrastructure, education, employment, and welfare of the citizens generally.

From our own end, as an organization, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) that have been advocating and involved in the crusade of fighting corruption in Kogi State over a decade, we shall be willing to partner with the agency when established. We call on the citizens and particularly, the public service in the State to take note and leverage on this new initiative to minimize and reduce corruption in Kogi State as the Law is not a respecter of anybody.

We call on the governor as commendable as this effort to put the necessary framework and machinery in place for the proper implementation of this great law in the interest of Justice and development of Kogi State.

Signed:
IDRIS MILIKI ABDUL
Executive Director
CHRCR,
Lokoja, Kogi State.
