Schools and institutions were closed down by the school authorities in Lokoja on Thursday following rumour of bandits invasion in Zango-Daji, Crusher, and Felele communities.

When our correspondent went round the town to asses the situation, most primary and secondary schools have closed down as a result of the rumour.

Some shops still open for business while some banks refused to render services to customers.

Some military men fully armed were stationed along Lokoja-Kabba junction while others parading the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Command is assuring residents that there’s no truth to rumors of bandit invasion in Zango, Crusher, and Felele communities in Lokoja. The story is “fake news” meant to create unnecessary tension in the State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, in a press statement issued through the Police Public Relations Officer,
Kogi State Police Command, CSP William Ovye Aya, warned those peddling rumors of bandit invasion to desist from spreading false alarms, causing unnecessary fears and panic among the good people of the state. Anyone found guilty of spreading false alarms will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

The CP reaffirmed the deployment of tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force and counter-terrorism units, to strategic locations to ensure safety. Residents are being urged to go about their daily activities as usual and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

“Security is a shared responsibility, and everyone is asked to work together to keep the state safe. Report any suspicious activities,” he said.

Similarly, the Kogi State Government has assured the public, especially students, parents, and residents of Lokoja, that there is no bandit attack or kidnapping threat at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, or at any other school within and around the Lokoja metropolis.

Hon. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo in a press statement said the satanic panic being circulated by mischief makers is baseless and should be completely dismissed.

“We urge our people to go about their lawful businesses without fear. Government is working round the clock with all security agencies to guarantee the safety and security of every Kogite, wherever they live or stay.
