The Kogi State Commissioner for Health Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, has successfully conducted a free medical outreach in Agasa Community, Okene Local Government Area, providing essential healthcare services to more than 1,000 residents from the community and surrounding areas.
The outreach, held at the Agasa Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) was coordinated by the Commissioner as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots and demonstrate support for the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Adeiza said the initiative was aimed at giving back to the people and expressing appreciation for their continued support of government policies and programmes.
He noted that the outreach reflects the commitment of the current administration to making quality healthcare accessible to rural communities across the state.
According to him, bringing healthcare closer to the people remains a key priority, particularly for underserved communities where access to medical services is often limited.
The programme attracted a large team of healthcare professionals, including 23 doctors from various specialties, 30 nurses and midwives, eight community health workers, five pharmacists, seven pharmacy technicians, three laboratory scientists, one optometrist, four hospital attendants, 20 support staff, 12 drivers, and several other medical personnel from hospitals and health institutions across Kogi State.
Beneficiaries received medications, medical supplies, eyeglasses, and other healthcare consumables at no cost.
Patients diagnosed with conditions requiring surgical intervention were referred to the Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital (CUSTECH), Okene, where they would receive free surgical treatment.
The outreach also featured health education sessions, sensitization campaigns, and public health talks designed to promote healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and the importance of seeking professional medical care.
Chief Medical Director of CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr. Shuaibu Stephen, described the initiative as a landmark achievement in Kogi State’s healthcare sector.
He commended the government for prioritizing the health and well-being of citizens, noting that the programme provided equitable access to quality healthcare services for residents regardless of their economic status.
Dr. Stephen said the large turnout of beneficiaries demonstrated the relevance of the intervention and the urgent need for such programmes in rural communities.
He added that both the medical team and beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the success of the outreach.
Other speakers at the event described the programme as another significant step toward improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots level. They encouraged residents to make greater use of Primary Healthcare Centres in their communities and cautioned against self-medication.
The speakers further emphasized the importance of obtaining medications from accredited healthcare facilities to avoid the dangers associated with counterfeit drugs and unregulated treatments.
They assured participants that the medical team remained committed to providing quality medical attention to every beneficiary and ensuring that no one was denied access to care.
Services provided during the outreach included outpatient consultations, laboratory investigations, tuberculosis diagnostic X-ray services, distribution of prescribed medications, mass distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, health education and awareness campaigns, identification and referral of more than 50 surgical cases for free surgeries, and referral of over 30 complex medical cases for advanced treatment at no cost.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Health for bringing healthcare services directly to their communities.
Many described the outreach as timely, impactful, and a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through accessible healthcare services.
