The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo has ordered the immediate evacuation of Kogi State students studying at the University of Jos following rising insecurity in parts of Plateau State.

The decision followed the disruption of academic activities at the institution, with students directed to vacate their hostels and the campus over safety concerns.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the Governor said the evacuation was a proactive step to protect Kogi indigenes affected by the crisis.

According to the governor, students are among the most vulnerable during periods of unrest, particularly those living off-campus and in unsecured areas.

Ododo disclosed that his Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Oladele Nihi, had been deployed to Jos alongside a delegation to coordinate the evacuation.

He said the team had already arrived in the city and concluded arrangements to transport the students safely back to Kogi State in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

The governor commended the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies working to restore normalcy in Plateau State.

He expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would restore peace and ensure those responsible for the recent attacks are brought to justice.

Ododo also assured parents and guardians that the safety and welfare of Kogi students remain a priority of his administration. He urged the students to remain calm and cooperate fully with officials handling the evacuation.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the lives and property of Kogi citizens, both within and outside the state, while pledging to continue monitoring developments in Jos.
