A middle age man earlier how on Thursday was electrocuted while vandalizing AEDC transformer at a substation at Camp road in Lokoja.

An eyewitness who claimed he knew the victim said he is an indigene of Lokoja, identified the victim’s name as Alfa Olukuluku Kabiru, from Angwan- Masara street.

However, Engr. Michael Eneromi, SME Lokoja Area Office For Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, while speaking on the incident said that the attention of the Company was drawn to a corpse at a substation along camp road.

He explained that the transformer has been a subject of repeated vandalization over a period, described the recent vandalization that killed the unknown vandal as the fifth in the series.

” Just last week we fixed the transformer following report by the community after it was vandalized”.

” Yesterday following another report of vandalization on the same transformer, we sent a mail requesting for about N1.9m to fix the transformer”.

Engr. Michael expressed gratitude that the recent electrocution of the vandal has exonerated Staff of the AEDC from wrong insinuation made in public spaces that staff of the electricity company are behind vandalization of electricity infrastructure.

” This is my 20 years of working as a staff of NEPA, AEDC, I make bold to say never have there been incidence of vandalization by our staff. I’m happy that the people can confirm this alongside others in Lokoja that mischief makers are behind the wicked act.

” I kindly want to appeal to members of the public to see electricity infrastructure as their equipment. I call on vigilantee, the security Agencies and members of the public to always call the attention of AEDC when they notice unusual movement and ensure that only staff with AEDC identity cards are allowed to carry out maintenance on our facilities”.

As at time of report, the Corpse of the deceased have been deposited at the Mortuary of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja by the Police and the AEDC officials.
