The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Mohammed Sanni Gambo, has paid a courtesy and “thank-you” visit to the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), seeking sustained media support in promoting justice, integrity and good governance in the country.

Speaking to journalists at the NUJ Secretariat in Lokoja, Gambo expressed appreciation to the council for what he described as its professionalism and courage in the pursuit of justice.

He said the role of the media in defending the truth remained critical, adding that the Kogi NUJ council had “proved beyond doubt” its commitment to fair and balanced reportage.

“A lot has gone down the drain in the pursuit of justice in our country, but the Kogi NUJ has continued to stand for the truth, and I commend you for that,” he said.

Reflecting on his political journey, Gambo said the judiciary had demonstrated integrity in its decisions.

“Integrity was proven to me through the judiciary on 10 November 2025. A man without a godfather, and the courts still stood by me. This clearly shows that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man,” he stated.

The PDP chairman attributed many of the nation’s challenges to the lack of integrity and injustice, calling on the judiciary and other institutions to remain steadfast.

“The problem of this country is largely a crisis of integrity. When people commit offences and go unpunished, insecurity will continue to thrive. Nigeria is not a banana republic. Whoever breaks the law must be punished, no matter how highly placed,*l” he said.

He stressed that due process must be strictly followed.

“Integrity will be very key during my stay in office. Due process must be followed, and things must be done according to the rule of law. We must protect the integrity of Nigeria as a nation,” he added.

On security, Gambo emphasized that it is a collective responsibility, promising collaboration with the Kogi State Government to address security challenges.

“I stand with the President and the Governor that ransom will not be paid to bandits or terrorists. This is a welcome development. Security should receive urgent attention because without security, development cannot thrive. If you see something, say something,” he said.

He further cautioned against politicising security issues.

“Insecurity is not a religious matter. It affects everyone. We must come together as Nigerians to confront this menace, irrespective of party, tribe or faith,” he added.

Responding, the Vice Chairman of the Kogi State NUJ Council, Ibrahim Obansa, congratulated Gambo on his electoral victory and urged politicians to avoid politics of bitterness.

Obansa said politics should always be about service to the people.

“We must put the country first. Politics should not be played with bitterness, because at the end of the day, we all have a role in building Nigeria,” he said.

He pledged continued collaboration with political actors to promote peace and security across the state.

“More needs to be done to dislodge terrorists from their hideouts. The media will continue to play its watchdog role while encouraging partnership that enhances public safety,” Obansa added.
