Meanwhile, a group, Right Thinking Citizens, based in Lokoja, has described as force and malicious a report insinuating that the compound where a photojournalist, Aiyepeku Ayo, was murdered as an
annex of the Kogi State Government House.
In a statement signed by Thompson Adegbola Idowu, the
Convener of the group, on Thursday said this submission was far from the truth, saying that is why there is the need to put the records straight.
The statement read in parts said “There is presently a wrong impression and information making the rounds that the location where a young photographer named Aiyepeku Ayo was murdered by a suspected murderer named Adebayo Pelumi is an annex of the Kogi State Government House. This submission is far flung from the truth and that is why there is the need to put the records straight.
“The facility and location where this ugly incident happened is where a news blog known as Inside Story operates from. Unknown to many, this online news medium is not owned by Kogi State Government. It was is owned by by an individual and not government
“The Inside Story news blog was used by the owner to promote his activities, and not that of government.
“The only online and traditionally owned newspaper that is for Kogi State Government is a weekly tabloid christened Graphic Newspaper.
The incident that has happened is a rude shock to all God fearing Kogites. We do not expect anyone to come up with a cock and bull story targeted at painting Kogi State Government black in this ungodly and inhumane act that a heartless citizen decides to carry out for reasons best known to him.
According to him, the security operatives are already combing everywhere to see that the suspected murderer is arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
“The public is therefore advised to refrain from comments, writing of posts or voice notes on social media platforms that may put them in trouble should they cannot come up with concrete evidence. The State Government and security operatives will surely keep them abreast of the progress made to pin down the perpetrator of this evil act.
