The Governing Council of Federal University Lokoja has inaugurated it’s new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye as the 4th Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja.
In his inauguration speech, the Vice Chancellor said that his vision is to transform the the institution into a world class institution distinguished by academic excellence, cutting-edge research, innovation and societal impact, while nurturing globally competitive students and staff in an enabling environment defined by transparency, inclusiveness, and collaboration.
He make the promise on the occasion of his official inauguration as the 4th Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja.
According to him, this vision is anchored in a clear mission, to enhance academic quality and strengthen research capacity; expand infrastructural development and digital transformation; promote global partnerships, innovation, and entrepreneurship; foster inclusiveness, staff development, and student welfare; and deepen community engagement and sustainable development initiatives.
His words, “Academic excellence will remain our core identity. Accreditation standards will be strengthened. Market-relevant programmes in emerging fields will be introduced thoughtfully. interdisciplinary scholarship will be encouraged. Research visibility will be improved. Centres and hubs addressing national and regional challenges will be developed strategically
“Infrastructure development will align with our Masterplan. Laboratories, Lavatories, lecture halls, libraries and hostels will be upgraded responsibly. Digital transformation will enhance efficiency and transparency. innovation and entrepreneurship will be institutionalised
“Financial sustainability will require discipline and creativity, Strengthened advancement structures, responsible expansion of internally generated revenue, and strategic partnerships
“No Vice-Chancellor succeeds alone. No administration prospers without cooperation. And no university advances where responsibility is fragmented. My goal is to strengthen this University as a system, one that functions through clear processes, shared responsibility, and institutional discipline. A strong university works because its structures are sound, not because individuals are present.
“I therefore invite the Governing Council, Senate, staff, students, unions, alumni, our host community, and all friends of this University to see this
moment not as the beginning of an indimdual tenure, but as a renewed collective commitment to the future of the Federal University Lokoja.
He pay tribute to Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi, the Foundation Vice-Chancellor, whose pioneering leadership gave this institution its initial direction, structure, and academic character at a time when conviction mattered more than comfort.
He also acknowledge Professor Angela Freeman Miri, whose tenure consolidated the early gains of the University and nurtured its growth with discipline, balance, and institutional sensitivity during a critical formative phase.
He also pay tribute to the immediate predecessor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, whose tenure marked a decisive phase in the physical and infrastructural consolidation of the Federal University Lokoja.
He said under his leadership, the University recorded visible and enduring strides in infrastructure development; classrooms, senate building, renovations of hostels, road networks and essential facilities that now form the backbone of our daily academic life.
