The pioneer 100-level students of the Faculty of Agriculture at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, have recorded a successful maize harvest from their demonstration farm, marking a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to practical agriculture and food security.

The Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, expressed his delight during the flag-off harvest event, where he commended the students, Dean, and faculty staff for their dedication. Impressed by the yield, the VC led the university’s management team to the farm, where they participated in the first harvest and even roasted fresh maize on-site.

Prof. Salawu emphasized the importance of agriculture in achieving self-sufficiency and national food security, urging the students to remain committed to the faculty’s objectives. He also announced plans to procure a tractor for the faculty before the next planting season to enhance productivity.

During the event, the Director of Academic Planning, Pharm. Muhammed Asuku Audu, encouraged students to embrace the vast opportunities in agriculture, highlighting its economic and societal benefits. Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Abdulrahman Danuwa Suleiman, appreciated the VC and management for their unwavering support, which has enabled the faculty’s remarkable achievements within just one year.

Dr. Suleiman further announced that the university community could now purchase maize harvested from the 2.3-hectare demonstration farm, showcasing the faculty’s contribution to sustainable farming and institutional development.

The Vice Chancellor also visited the faculty’s fish pond section where he saw the fingerlings still growing.
