Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR), Kogi State, Comrade Idris Miliki has called on Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State to use his remaining two years in office to further improve on security and safety of the people in the state.

Miliki gave the advise on Tuesday in Lokoja in a statement on second year anniversary of the present administration in the state under Governor Ododo.

He charged Ododo to sustain the current onslaught against banditry and other form of violent crimes across the state, saying the administration can only succeed under a peaceful atmosphere.

“The current onslaught on the security situation is commendable in Kogi State as witnessed recently : the reports on various security Agencies activities and the latest successful outing is encouraging, heartwarming and the need for it to be sustained as security is the bedrock of development in any society.

“The reports on collective strategies among different security agencies that have brought about these recorded successful outings are also commendable developments.

“We commend the involvement efforts of the office of the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, we also commend the coordinating efforts of the State Security Adviser and call on stakeholders to work collaboratively, to confront all forms of security challenges in Kogi State.

“Violent extremism as currently being witnessed in Kogi State and on a national scale, needs more Community Resilience, and community approach and cooperation,” he said.

He, however, stated that a lot of work still needed to be done and urgently too, in the areas such as, transportation, housing, water, tourism, human development and training, Media, roads, health, basic education, Constant Citizens Engagements, and environmental related issues.

“We call on the Governor to initiate Town Halls Meetings with citizens as promised during his campaign before his election in 2024,” he said.

While congratulating Governor Ododo on the second-year anniversary if his administration, Miliki suggested a reshuffle of his cabinet to reinvigorate governance.

“As the Executive Governor of Kogi State, we call on him to change some of his aides and reduce his cabinet and inject new people that have requisite professional skills in the areas of appointments to generate new ideas in this last phase of this current mandate.

Miliki gave Governor Ododo a pass mark in the areas of welfare of workers through prompt payment of their salaries and alliances and the rule of law.

“He has done well on the payment of salaries, as we don’t have tension in the state again due to non-payment of salaries as and when due, compared to the last administrations.

“Thuggery is not being encouraged by his administration. We have not experienced disappearance of people being linked to his government.

“Rules of law are also encouraging at large; the state is peaceful under his watch,” he stated.

Recall that Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo was sworn in as the Executive Governor of Kogi State on January 27, 2024.
