A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, has set aside his differences with Senator Sunday Karimi and declared support for the senator’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gegu said his earlier disagreement with Senator Karimi was linked to issues surrounding the senator’s position on former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, stressing that his loyalty has always remained with the leadership of the party.
According to him, the misunderstanding has now been resolved following the intervention and directive of party leaders.
“My recent disagreement with Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi stemmed from his disagreement with our Supreme Leader, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, and His Excellency Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo,” he stated.
“As I have always pledged my total loyalty to our leaders, I will continue to follow their direction, Insha Allah.”
The APC stalwart emphasized that he harbours no personal resentment against the senator, noting that party leaders had reconciled all parties involved.
“I bear no personal grudge against Senator Karimi. He has been forgiven by our leaders, and as such, I now wholeheartedly support his re-election bid,” he added.
Gegu also commended His Excellency Samuel Bamidele Aro for building a formidable political structure within a short period and called on him and his supporters to align with Senator Karimi in the interest of party unity.
“I urge you and your supporters to rally behind Karimi, as our party, APC, is poised to make history in 2027 and beyond with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the entire APC family,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and pledged continued loyalty to the party’s leadership as efforts intensify to strengthen and reposition the party ahead of future elections.
The endorsement comes barely days after Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other APC stakeholders reportedly endorsed Senator Sunday Karimi as the consensus candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District ahead of the next election cycle.
