The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed Saturday, 31, October 2020 to conduct bye Elections in Lagos, Kogi, Cross Rivers, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Plateau, Imo and Borno States where the positions of lawmakers had become vacant either by winning elections to become governor or deputy governor, through death or court ruling.
INEC in a meeting held on Tuesday to review the Edo and Ondo Governorship Elections and the just concluded Nassarawa state Constituency election have scheduled the bye elections in eight states.
In Lagos, the Lagos East Senatorial Constituency has become vacant after the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo, who died of COVID-19 complications. Also, Hon Tunde Buraimoh of Kosofe Constituency 2 has become vacant.
In Bayelsa, two senatorial districts have become vacant as the occupiers of the seat were Senator Duoye Diri, who is now the governor of the state. Also, Governor Siri’s running mate was a senator before the election.
