The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council has called for aggressive awareness drive to help manage COVID-19 misconceptions and strengthen the fight against it.
The Union in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Mall Umar Abdulwahab and Dcn. Omotayo Ayanda respectively to commiserate with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the death of his Chief of Staff (CoS), Alh. Aminu Adisa Logun, said the misconceptions posed a lot of danger on the spread of the virus.
The Union noted that with sustained awareness against the pandemic, citizens who are having different misconceptions about the virus will understand that the virus is real.
It said further that getting the people to understand and observe all directives by government and health authorities to curb the pandemic, would impact greatly on the government’s ability to contain the spread.
The Union had expressed grief and disbelief of the sudden death of the Chief of Staff to the dreaded disease, even as it described the death as painful and a huge loss to the people of the state given his services to the state.
The statement added that the CoS died when the state is consolidating on its gains in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
According to the Union, it has closely followed the activities of the State Government in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, regretting that the virus despite efforts by the State Technical Committee on COVID-19 claimed the life of the late elder statesman.
A development which the Union said is an indication that the COVID-19 is real and required everyone to take personal responsibility for their health and well-being, while government continue to intensify efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
“The Chief of Staff died at a time when Kwara State begun to consolidate on the Governor AbdulRazaq successes and see a ray of hope in the fight against COVID-19. We must not allow the death of Logun to deter us from forging ahead in the quest to finding a lasting solution to the dreaded disease,” the statement said.
According to the Union, “the deceased served with passion and commitment heaving no one in doubt that he was a dependable elder statesman as well as a worthy assistant to his principal. Such a loss is deeply hurting especially looking at the vacuum created by his demise”.
The union, however, urged the Governor and the Logun’s family to take solace in the fact that while Aminu Adisa Logun lived, he gave his best as it lasted and should be remembered for his contributions and service.
The union also prayed Allah to grant the governor, the state government and indeed the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
