The Oworo Traditional Council, has accused the member representing Lokoja 2 state Constituency in the kogi state house of Assembly, Idris Ndako of masterminding the petition written against the Olu if Oworo, Oba Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi, calling for his dethronement and banishement.
They said that the petition which was submitted to the kogi state House of Assembly was written by A.O. Musa who, they said is Ndako’s personal lawyer on behalf of the Iwo Masi which is one of the five ruling houses in Oworoland.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the other traditional rulers, Chief Aiyedogbon Berida, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, press center Lokoja, said from inception, each Olu of Oworo except Olu Mundi administered Oworoland from their ancentral seat.
He noted that Oworo has no central palace for the Olu, saying that neither the Lokoja local government nor the kogi state government has ever made the administration of Oworoland from a particular community in Oworoland an issue.
The royal fathers noted that the action of Ndako was intended to undermine the Oworo Traditional system as well as cause disaffection among the peace loving people of Oworo land.
According to the royal fathers, the petition, requesting the dethronement and banishment of Olu of Oworo is rejected and condemned in its entirety.
They informed that all prime traditional activities are carried out in Agbaja, which includes General council meetings, installation of village heads, Oworo Development Association Annual convention and festivities such as Id-el fitri and Id-el Kabir.
The group added that there is no known Oworo custom, native law and tradition that forbids this practice, let alone the desecration of same.
The traditional rulers thereafter passed a vote of confidence on the Olu of Oworo, Mallam Mohammed Adoga Baiyerohi, Agbosi the second.
