The Chief Executive officer Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation Christy Abayomi Oluwole has familiarize Stakeholders in kwara state the Women’s voice and leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project Concepts
Mrs Christy Abayomi Oluwole who disclosed this in Ilorin during the launching of women voice and leadership project of Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation which partner with action aid and Global affairs Canada said the project was to strengthen synergy between government and key stakeholders in the coordination, monitoring and reporting gender equality and supports for the Empowerment of women and girls
With her project Women’s voice and leadership (WVL) Nigeria project with ActionAid Nigeria as supporting partner, funded by Global Affairs Canada Mrs Christy Abayomi Oluwole said the “women’s voice and leadership project is a five-year Global Affairs Canada development assistance aimed at assisting women’s rights organizations and their movements in their efforts to eliminate discrimination and rights violations in policy and legislation(Including Implementation) and the provision of services, as well as harmful social beliefs and practices in six projects states of Bauchi, Cross River, Enugu, Lagos, Kebbi and Kwara and national.
She added that the objective was to protect women and girls from violence, create opportunities for economic independence and decision making
Oluwole said the project would strengthen mechanism for institutional and societal response on violence against women and girls, increase women’s access and control over economic resources, increase women’s participation in decision making in private and public spaces, increase enjoyment of human rights by women and girls and the advancement of gender equality in Nigeria, enhance delivery of programming and advocacy to advance gender equality and women, girls Empowerment added that project was designed for a period of five years which would end in November 2023.
Meanwhile the first lady of Kwara State Dr Olufolake Abdulrahbdulrazaq in her remark at the event expressed the commitment towards giving the necessary support that would take women in the state to limelight
Dr Olufolake Abdulrahman Abdulrahbdulrazaq whow represented by the permanent Secretary Ministry of social development Alhaji Abdulganiyu Olarewaju commended the effort of her husband governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for making 55 percent of his cabinet members women
She added that the strategic positions in the state were given to women as she reiterated her commitment towards giving the necessary support that would take women to the limelight “When you empower women, you empower the nation, any support the NGO require from the state government would be given to them” she said
While expressed gratitude for making the state to benefit in the programme, Olufolake Abdulrahman expressed her williness towards shunning gender based violence against women
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu urged women to support each other and be close to each other as friends, “talk to each other to ease tension” she said
However, the commissioner for social development Mrs Aremu Abosede Deborah said the progrmme was meant to assist the women to cater for their children and for them to be recognised in the society as she urged them to do what is expected of them.
Mrs Aremu who urged the women to do the assignment given to them, urged the women to cooperate and work together till the the five years the programme will end
Other stakeholders at the event also stressed the need to scale up against gender violence
Some other NGO in the state which joined in launching the Women’s voice and leadership (WVL) Nigeria project in Kwara State include Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation GLOHWOC, International Women’s Communication Centre IWCC, Olive Community Development Initiative OCDI and Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation GLOHWOC.
