
Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a planned kidnapping operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one suspected terrorist and recovering weapons during a tactical ambush.
The operation, carried out on Saturday followed credible intelligence reports indicating that a group of terrorists was preparing to launch kidnapping attacks in Jakura II Community and its environs.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, troops swiftly deployed to a suspected crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road and laid an ambush to intercept the criminals.
The troops reportedly came into contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. During the exchange, one terrorist was neutralised, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Following the operation, soldiers conducted a search of the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier, and mobile phones.
Lt. Abdullahi noted that the recovered items further confirmed the involvement of the criminal group in kidnapping activities within the area.
He stated that the successful operation reflects the determination of troops of the 12 Brigade to sustain offensive actions against terrorists and other criminal elements threatening the safety of residents.
The Army spokesman added that further operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commending the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
