Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has condemned the recent attack on Iluke-Bunu community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, describing the killing of a Vice Principal and two other residents during Wednesday’s invasion as unfortunate and unacceptable.

Karimi, while expressing concern over the worsening security situation in the area, commended security agencies for their efforts but urged them to intensify operations to restore peace and protect lives and property.

The lawmaker decried the attack, during which armed bandits reportedly killed the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke-Bunu, and allegedly abducted some students after terrorising the community.

He noted that the incident was part of a growing wave of insecurity affecting several communities across Kogi West, particularly in Okunland, where residents have recently faced increasing cases of armed robbery, kidnapping and destruction of property.

According to him, the persistent attacks have disrupted the livelihoods of residents and created an atmosphere of fear, with many communities struggling to carry out normal socio-economic activities.

“The relentless cycle of attacks has disrupted daily business activities, leaving families living in constant fear and crippling socio-economic activities. However, I assure our people that this is the last kick of a dying horse. The end of these criminal activities is near,” Karimi stated.

The senator assured residents that government authorities were determined to track down and prosecute those responsible for the attacks, stressing the need for enhanced security measures, accountability and stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies.

He called on all stakeholders to work together to stem the tide of insecurity and safeguard lives across the district.

Karimi also expressed confidence that the attack on Iluke-Bunu would mark a turning point in the fight against criminal activities in the area, while reaffirming the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

The senator sympathised with the families of those killed, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and expressed hope for the safe return of those reportedly abducted.

He pledged to continue prioritising the welfare and security of the people of Kogi West.
