Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to upholding the rule of law in the ongoing process of restoring state constituencies in the state.

Speaking at an INEC stakeholders’ meeting held in Kogi on Tuesday, the governor described the exercise as a historic step toward justice, equity, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic system.

He noted that the restoration of constituencies represents a critical moment in ensuring fair representation for previously underserved communities.

Ododo praised INEC for adhering strictly to legal provisions, particularly in line with a Federal High Court ruling and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He said the commission’s actions demonstrate institutional integrity and reinforce public trust in the electoral process.

The governor also lauded the leadership of INEC Chairman, Joash Ampitan, for what he described as courage, professionalism, and commitment to constitutional order.

According to him, such leadership qualities have strengthened confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.

He further acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in supporting democratic institutions, particularly for allowing the judiciary to carry out its responsibilities without interference.

“This process is not merely political; it is a restoration of constitutional order and a victory for democracy,” Ododo said, emphasizing that it gives voice to marginalized populations and enhances representation.

The governor assured INEC and other stakeholders of the full cooperation of the Kogi State Government throughout the exercise. He disclosed that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of officials and the smooth conduct of their duties across the state.

Ododo urged INEC to remain committed to fairness and due process in carrying out its assignment, stressing that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

He welcomed participants to the state, expressing confidence that the engagement would further deepen democracy and strengthen governance in Nigeria.
