Barely three days after his defection from the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, has secured a major political endorsement as APC leaders in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State unanimously adopted him as their consensus candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The endorsement was announced during a Nomination Form Endorsement Ceremony held in Lokoja, where party leaders from across Mopamuro converged to demonstrate unity and chart a common political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the leaders, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the decision was driven by Abejide’s impressive performance and commitment to the development of Yagba Federal Constituency.
He noted that Abejide’s ranking status in the House of Representatives places him in a strategic position to attract more democratic dividends to the constituency.
According to Fanwo, Abejide has demonstrated capacity, competence, and dedication to the welfare of the people, citing his interventions in education, empowerment programmes for women, artisans and farmers, support for traditional institutions, and execution of capital projects across Yagba land.
He added that the unanimous endorsement reflects the unity within the APC structure in Mopamuro and a collective resolve to sustain quality representation.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government Area, Ademola Bello, described the development as the beginning of a new political phase for the area.
He said the consensus around Abejide represents the collective will of the people and signals a shared determination to move forward in unity.
“This is the dawn of a new era for our people. Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide is the consensus candidate of everyone in Mopamuro. Our unity today sends a strong message that we are determined to move forward together,” Bello stated.
The endorsement is widely seen as a significant boost for Abejide’s re-election bid, as support continues to build across Yagba Federal Constituency.
The event was attended by key party stakeholders, including Hon. Olawumi Jacob, member representing Mopamuro Constituency in the State House of Assembly; Mopamuro APC Chairman, Olajide Adeyemo; State Assistant Organising Secretary, Aina Lawal; Kogi West Zonal Youth Leader, Olusegun Arogbonlo; ward chairmen; and other party leaders.
