Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s possible return to active politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election appears to be gathering momentum, following fresh mobilisation efforts by a nationwide support coalition.
The Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027, made up of representatives from across the country, announced the appointment of its national officers after a strategic meeting held in Abuja.
The group appointed former Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Tom Ohikere, as National President. Mr. Maxwell Egolikoma from Bayelsa State was confirmed as Deputy National President, while Dr. Jibril Shehu Mustapha of Jigawa State emerged as National Secretary.
The coalition also set up several committees to coordinate its activities, including Media, Finance and Organising Committees. Al-Mubarak Muhammed was named Chairman of the Media Committee.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by Dr. Ohikere, and made available to our correspondent in Lokoja on Sunday, the coalition said preparations were already at an advanced stage to persuade Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race.
The group further disclosed that consultations were ongoing on the political platform under which the former president may eventually contest, noting that discussions were nearing conclusion.
It urged members interested in contesting elective positions alongside Jonathan to remain patient until he formally declares his intention.
According to the coalition, extensive consultations carried out across the country indicate growing public interest in Jonathan’s possible return to national leadership.
The group maintained that many Nigerians believe Jonathan’s administration between 2011 and 2015 delivered relative stability and progress, adding that there is an increasing call for his return to restore hope and direction to the country.
The coalition said the period ahead offers Nigerians another opportunity to unite behind the former president and chart a fresh course for the nation.
