Residents of Lokoja, the state capital, have expressed outrage over prolonged electricity outages while continuing to pay the highest electricity tariffs.
The issue, which began in November, has worsened in December, leaving households and businesses in darkness for hours at a time.
According to a statement signed by MT Nasidi, Director of Media and Publicity, Lokoja Consultative Forum (LCF), electricity consumers have been paying for “two minutes of flashing” while enduring constant blackouts. The statement called on Kogi Electricity Distribution Ltd (KEDL) to provide an urgent explanation and address the ongoing power supply crisis.
“The situation has become unbearable for residents and businesses alike,” the statement said. “We demand that KEDL restore regular electricity supply, review billing practices, and provide a clear timeline for resolving this crisis.”
The LCF urged the electricity provider to act swiftly to prevent further hardship on residents and restore public confidence in electricity service in the state capital.
