THE Governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the forth coming party primary in Kogi state, Comrade Gowon Egbunu has said that the high rate of poverty, unemployment and huge infrastructural gap caused by years of uninspiring leadership and the need to tackle the same through good governance remains the core motivation to run for the Office of Governor of Kogi State.
In an interview with on Wednesday in Lokoja, the Governorship aspirant noted that “It is my firm belief that economic prosperity for the citizens of Kogi State is possible if only we can optimally harness our comparative advantage in both human and natural resources.
“My vision is to build a globally competitive economy where all citizens of Kogi State can contribute to the economic value chain of the state through innovations and enterprise,’ he noted.
He assured the people of the state that his approach to governance will be solution-based and fundamentally driven by knowledge, stressing that he will hit the ground running from day one and will waste no time dwelling on what past administrations have done or failed to do. We will be set to purpose and implement all our developmental plans with timelines.
His words, “Our government will run a knowledge economy with massive investments in human capital development. Education and health will receive unprecedented attention and will be the core of our developmental pursuit.
“All government businesses will be automated and ICT driven with the aim of completely eliminating the anti-development monster called CORRUPTION. We will rebuild our value system of hard work, honesty, service, and accountability.
“Our governance structure will be built to promote productivity while simultaneously eliminating redundancy and mediocrity.
We will galvanize local and international partners through our Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative to help us achieve accelerated development, especially in bridging the humongous gap.
In the area of funding, he opined that funding of recurrent and capital expenditure is becoming increasingly difficult due to rising competing needs with limited revenue.
He added that politicians make promises without telling electorates how they intend to redeem these promises if they get into office stressing that problem of corruption, government waste, and administrative recklessness are more responsible for the inability to fund projects than lack of money.
“Our first step will be to plug leakages and reduce waste by drastically reducing the cost of governance by cutting down on government appointees and unnecessary paraphernalia that goes with these offices, and also confronting government bureaucracy and bottlenecks associated with governance through the use of ICT in the bidding, award, and payment for government contracts and projects
